[Click for large format...] Chaco Canyon’s 25" f/4 telescope is in capable hands as fearless leader Gary Becker checks out some distant galaxies and star clusters.
Our first image! With the help of Chaco's astronomer, John Sefick, our group obtained this first CCD computer image of the spiral galaxy M65 in the constellation Leo. The CDD camera is hooked up to an automatically-controlled 14" Celestron Compustar telescope, which can be entirely remote-controlled from inside the control room. [Click for large format...] With more help from John Sefick, Adam Jones obtained our first color image--of the Sombrero Galaxy, M104. Indeed, this 3-minute exposure looks like a sombrero!
Sam Hopkins, Adam Jones, and John Sefick took this black-and-white image of the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) near the handle of the Big Dipper. [Click for large format...]
